Nuchal translucency and Anatomy scan
Nuchal translucency screening and early anatomy scan are two tests that are combined together, and provide important information about the health of the fetus in the early stage of pregnancy.
The combined test must be performed at week 13+ in order to enable the qualities of both tests together.
A few more words about the tests
-
Nuchal translucency screening: an ultrasound examination conducted between weeks 11 and 13+6 of pregnancy. In the test, the thickness of the liquid layer on the back of the fetus is measured. Increased thickness may indicate an increased risk of chromosomal syndromes, such as Down syndrome.
-
Early anatomy scan: an ultrasound examination conducted between weeks 14 and 17 of pregnancy.
In this test, all the organs of the fetus are examined in order to verify their normal development and identify possible birth defects.
Who needs her?
The combined test is recommended for all pregnant women, but is especially recommended for women who are at increased risk of chromosomal syndromes, such as:
-
Women over 35 years old
-
Women with a family history of chromosomal syndromes
-
Women whose previous pregnancy had a fetus with a chromosomal defect
