Third-Trimester Anomaly Scan

The third-trimester anomaly scan is an ultrasound examination performed between weeks 30-32 of pregnancy.

The purpose of this scan is to detect fetal anomalies that may not have been identified in previous ultrasounds, such as the first- and second-trimester anomaly scans, as well as to identify other developmental concerns that may emerge later in pregnancy.

During this scan, fetal growth is assessed, and all major fetal systems are re-evaluated, including the central nervous system and brain, digestive system, kidneys and urinary tract, skeletal system, and facial structures—ensuring they have developed appropriately for the gestational age.

Currently, the Israeli Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends performing a third-trimester anomaly scan as a routine examination, even for low-risk pregnancies.
